positive workplace habits

A scenario-based eLearning training designed to help employees utilize resources that encourage collaboration between peers and managers. This gamified module immerses the learner into five real-life situations where he or she has to make a choice based on the personal experience, and learn about the correct behavior.

Audience: Current employees with 1-3 years of experience.

Responsibilities: Research, Instructional Design, Design Document, Scripting, Storyboard, eLearning Development, Visual Design.

Tools: Articulate Storyline 360, Google Docs.

the problem

After a while employees who work at the fast-paced environment might experience demotivation, tiredness, and/or personal problems. People might feel pressured with unmanageable workload, unpleasant coworkers, simple boredom, etc. Whatever the reason is, companies spend a lot of money to minimize this issue. In order to succeed at the workplace, it's a good idea to develop work habits and conduct that reflect a desire to help the organization.

Main Character Introduction

the solution

I created scenario-based gamified eLearning that allows employees to make decisions regarding their workplace behavior and habits in a risk-free environment. In addition, scenario-based training will show managers and supervisors the realistic most common mistakes that employees might pitfall. Seeing these outcomes and practicing the correct actions will help them avoid making those mistakes in the real world.

Scenario 2 Question

the process

After spending time researching the topic, talking with accountant and project management professionals, I wrote the design document outlining the purpose, audience, training recommendations, deliverables, and topics that will be covered based on objectives. Creating this project was an ongoing process that required constant analysis and iteration.  With ongoing feedback from mentors and user testing, I was able to develop a polished final version of this product.

I designed and developed this eLearning experience from start to finish. To accomplish this, I wrote, design document and storyboard, designed visual mockups, developed the Alpha and Beta versions, and, finally, developed the final - Gold - product.

In the storyboard, I used a layout that incorporated the slides, text, programming notes, and visuals in one document, which helped the client understand how all the pieces of the eLearning would work as a whole, visualize the flow of the course, and understand how all the elements would interact on the screen.

The Highlights

I incorporated a mentor character that learners can choose to guide them when they need help throughout the knowledge check questions. This character is an experienced supervisor with years of successful experience managing teams. I chose to use the mentor character to review or learn the new information because some of the material might be obvious or repetitive to the learner.

Mentor Character Screen

I selected a color theme that aligned with topic, chose a font type, weight for all headings and body text, and designed the custom buttons.

I created custom Previous and Next buttons to give unique and personalized look to the module, and gamified reward to incentivize the learner throughout the course.

The result

The eLearning module was well-received by the instructional design community. I’ve got a great feedback on the visual design, flow and engagement of the content, clean, professional and user-friendly presentation.

This project helped me gain a stronger understanding of the instructional design process from beginning to end. I learned how to design, develop, and refine the learning experience that was scenario-based and addressed real-life performance problems.

In development phase I’ve discovered just how much every detail counts in the learning experience: from buttons, spacing, text font and weight, color scheme, and consistent animation. These details make a big difference between an experience that is ordinary and outstanding. Thus, this project was vital in gaining a deeper understanding of tools that help create professional and quality eLearning experiences.

This project allowed me to become skilled and comfortable with the right tools, which led to clean, consistent, and stimulating product. Now, I have a solid proficiency and grasp of the tools needed to develop professional and high caliber eLearning, although, there is always room for growth and improvement.
